    General Dentist

    Dr. Tran came into dentistry while in pursuit of a career that peaked her artistic quality while feeding her interest in the healthcare field. The most gratifying part of being a dentist is making a difference in the patients’ lives by delivering quality care and teaching them to become proactive in their own health.
    She was born in Orange County, California, and has always loved the water and being in nature. In her leisure time, she enjoys hiking trails, wakeboarding, and traveling to discover new adventures. She also loves hosting small gatherings to cook and spend time with family and friends.

    Oral Surgeon

    Dr. Joe Mayes II, a native of West Texas, began his educational training at Texas Tech University while pursuing a degree in Cell & Molecular Biology. He then attended Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas where he achieved his Doctorate in Dental Surgery. During his dental training Dr. Mayes received numerous academic and clinical awards including the Dr. D. Lamar Byrd Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Academic Achievement Award from the Baylor Oral Surgery Alumni Assoc., the Outstanding Dental Student Award and the Dental Implant Student Award from the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Horace Wells Senior Student Award from the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, the Dr. William S. Kramer Award of Excellence from the OKU National Honor Society, and the Best Hand Skills Award as voted by the Baylor College of Dentistry Class of 2009.

    Dr. Mayes then moved to New Orleans where he completed an internship in General Surgery at Louisiana State University Medical Center before completing his residency training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Science Center and School of Dentistry. While at LSU, Dr. Mayes was fortunate enough to be trained using state-of-the-art technology to learn the latest techniques in all of the many facets of his specialty. He then hurried back home to Texas to begin practicing oral surgery in the DFW area.

    Dr. Mayes has participated in research on various aspects of his specialty, many of which have been accepted for publication in peer-reviewed national and international journals. He continues to attend national meetings and lectures to keep up to date with the most current evidence-based treatment options, advancements in technology, and overall dental health information. While Dr. Mayes is trained to practice every aspect of oral surgery, his primary emphasis is on dental implantology, bone grafting and pre-prosthetic surgery, complicated dental extractions, and outpatient anesthesia/sedation.

    Dr. Mayes is a former ski instructor, spent time as a graphic designer, and is a proud veteran who served as a medic in the US Army. During his time on active military duty he was able to achieve the prestigious Expert Field Medical Badge as well as being honored with an Army Commendation Medal. Dr. Mayes is married to Kemi, his wife of 17 years, they have one child and live in North Dallas. In addition to spending time with his family Dr. Mayes enjoys golf, hunting, and snow skiing.

    Dr. Mayes is committed to delivering the best surgical care and procedural experience possible. His clinical experience as a practitioner combined with his diverse personal history allows Dr. Mayes to connect with patients of all ages and backgrounds and allows him to deliver an exceptional level of care in a relaxed clinical setting.

  3. Paula Ortiz Portrait

    Paula Ortiz, DDS, MSD

    Periodontist

    Dr. Paula Ortiz has been practicing periodontics for over 10 years and is experienced in all aspects of periodontics and dental implants. She was born and raised in Colombia and since early on decided to attend dental school. She achieved her dental degree from The Institute of Health Sciences in Medellin Colombia in 1997. Then, she worked with the underserved rural communities for the next year. After that she joined a periodontal residency program in Colombia and after relocating to The United States she completed her training in Periodontics and Masters degree In Sciences in Dentistry at prestigious Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio where she served as Chief Periodontal Resident for two continuous years. Her research in Periodontal Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis was published in the prestigious Journal of Periodontology and has gathered the attention of researchers and clinicians in both Dentistry and Medicine. Ever since graduating from Case, Dr. Ortiz has devoted her time to private and group practice as well as holding a faculty position at Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry since 2009.

    Doctor Ortiz is married to her husband of 19 years and they have three children. On her free time Dr. Ortiz enjoys reading, cooking, riding her bike and traveling all alongside her husband and children.

    She is fully committed to providing excellent treatment and providing state of the art and compassionate care.
